The purpose of NGO “Production of Organic Food”‘s existence is sustainable development of rural areas, with preservation of traditional and cultural values through promotion and development of organic agriculture in Montenegro.
NGO works in the compass of environmental protection, promotion of agro and rural tourism, promotion and production of organic food, selling of organic food, active participation in community, concerning problems connected to ecology and sustainable development in Montenegro. NGO “Production of Organic Food” grew from enthusiasm and desire of Montenegrin University students to contribute to promotion and development of their own rural areas and organic agriculture.
Ever since 2002, NGO “Production of Organic Food” involved in its work a large number of projects, some of which have been supported by donors and aimed at development of organic agriculture, preservation of nature and promotion of rural areas in Montenegro as tourist attractions.
At the very beginning of our work in 2002, on Lukavica mountain in Župa nikšićka, the first experimental field in organic agriculture in Montenegro was formed.
Besides projects that had ratified productive abilities of members and the organization itself, NGO has realized the project of founding the magazine for organic food “EcoFood”, that is issued monthly since December 2002, and covers the subject of sustainable development in Montenegro.
NGO “Production of Organic Food” has started its own production of organic food in order to promote and emphasize the chance of Montenegro in organic agriculture.
NGO established, in order to develop and promote organic agriculture, the first bio-shop of organic food, Biomontenegro, which serves as purchase center for all the organic products produced in Montenegro. This shop of organic food covers also the advertising of Montenegrin organic products sold in it.
Within projects used to promote advantages of composting, the first Center for Composting was formed, and it functions inside the editorial office of magazine “EcoFood” and has advisory role in the issue of composting.
Organizing large number of workshops with agricultural producers and young population in schools, cooperation with young people from European Union in order to promote natural beauties of Montenegro, participation and awards on domestic and international fairs connected to protection of environment and organic food, promotion of eco-farms in Montenegro, donation of books for library in elementary school “Dušan Bojović” in Župa, are just some of the activities done by NGO “Production of Organic Food”.
In 2002, we started the certification of the members of organization as organic producers.
NGO also iniciated protection of mountain Lukavica in Župa nikšićka, at Environmental Preservation Office. NGO “Production of Organic Food” actively participated in organization of environmental protection in Župa nikšićka, and it had given significant comments on Spatial Plan of Montenegro.
