ABOUT THE MAGAZINE
Association “Production of Organic Food” from Nikšić, in its foundation, besides aiming at production of biologically more valuable food, also wanted to promote sustainable tourism, ecology and healthy lifestyles. Problems that exist in Montenegro when agricultural production is concerned are mainly connected to: insufficient information among agricultural producers about modern ways of production and new trends in production in organic agriculture, poor knowledge about the activities of agricultural associations, and the gap between associations, their offer and consumers.
This gap was especially emphasized with products from organic agriculture, where consumers were not familiar with the advantages that consuming of organic products brings. Consumers often, beside these facts, were not familiar with producers that offer organic products, neither with places where those products could be found.
Associations and NGO sector from this area of sustainable agriculture, due to high price of advertising in media, are not able to promote their services, products and activities.
On the other hand, existing and potential agricultural producers are insufficiently informed about the advantages of practicing organic agriculture. Currently in Montenegro there is no specialized magazine that could solve the problems of insufficient informing of agricultural producers.
In order to solve problems of insufficient informing of agricultural producers in Montenegro, it was necessary to establish professional magazine whose thematic would be about organic agriculture, ecology, eco-tourism, sustainable development and promotion of healthy lifestyles. For all those reasons, in December 2002, we established the magazine “EcoFood”.
The magazine is issued monthly, which enabled the continuity of issuing and better popularization of organic agriculture as one of the chances for development of agriculture in Montenegro.
This magazine was beneficial for:
- association “Production of Organic Food”, by free presentation and promotion of its own products and activities on national market, which enabled better marketing of their products;
- consumers, by more complete information about all the advantages of organic products;
- all the other associations and NGOs, which in their programs have, as one of the goals, sustainable development in Montenegro. This magazine gave them free space for promotion of the activities of their associations.
In its former work, magazine “EcoFood” cooperated with over 30 expert-assistants and over 40 firms that greatly contributed to the issuing of this magazine by their advertising.
There were several receptions for the anniversary of the magazine’s foundation, which were also good chances for promotion of organic agriculture in Montenegro.
