NGO “Production of Organic Food” grew from enthusiasm and desire of Montenegrin University students to contribute to promotion and development of their own rural areas and organic agriculture.

EDITOR'S SPEACH

It is my pleasure to greet and welcome you in front of the magazine “EcoFood” and all those who were and now are part of the editorial office, on this day when four years ago, a group of students from Montenegrin faculties, with enthusiasm and vision that this project is possible and attainable, although without necessary equipment, space and experience in such business, started its realization. Not so long ago, in 2002, we made our first small, and also big steps in organic agriculture in Montenegro, first by founding the NGO “Production of Organic Food”, and then by starting the magazine “EcoFood”, which, by its content, was the first of a kind in Montenegro, not only in the field of agriculture, but in themes related to sustainable development and healthy lifestyles.

Although followed by many problems and challenges, the magazine, through 26 issues, in our opinion, has succeeded in making the most important and the hardest step in further promotion of organic agriculture as real and possible chance for development of rural parts of Montenegro. From the period when no one, or almost no one, even knew about the chances of organic agriculture and eco-tourism, we entered the period when larger number of us realizes options of our further sustainable development.

Large number of people, such as readers of “EcoFood”, expert-collaborators, then agricultural producers and firms we had interviews with and made reports about, as well as representatives of foreign organizations, that had worked and are still working in Montenegro, in some way have experienced and heard what was the message and the main aim that “Production of Organic Food” had, when starting the magazine “EcoFood” – inform as many people as possible of basic principles of organic agriculture, sustainable development and healthy diet.

The greatest credit for continual informative and educational work of this magazine, despite all the problems, beside numerous sacrifices and persistence of the editorial office members, have expert-collaborators, then firms and organizations, and I will use this occasion to thank them in the name of magazine “EcoFood”, for recognizing this magazine as real business partner and by that significantly supporting the future development of organic agriculture in Montenegro.

Not wanting to set no one apart on this occasion, I would like to especially emphasize the support of USAID, which by its understanding and projects, enabled future normal work of the magazine.

In the end, I would like to express special gratitude to members of the editorial office, who, having gained their academic titles, searched for their professional engagement in other areas of public economy, and yet, were there to support the magazine in maybe the hardest moments of its work.

Today, refreshed with new personnel – students of Agricultural faculty in Podgorica, the editorial office of “EcoFood” attempts to answer all the developmental challenges that stand in front of it, in front of NGO “Production of Organic Food”, but also in front of the entire Montenegro.
